“[The Towson Artists Group]’s first anniversary show offers you a chance to see the same models painted in a diverse range of personal styles. It’s more intriguing than it sounds. Various interpretations of one person’s nine-hour pose allows you to piece together a far richer idea of what that person truly looks like in real life, and the group’s styles vary enough to maintain interest throughout the exhibit… [T]he endless variations on identical models conjure up visions of Parisian life-drawing salons and classic portraiture.”
-J. Bowers, City Paper
Amanda Boutwell is a 2007 graduate from Washington College with a degree in visual art. Through her paintings she explores the possibilities of expressing depth and emotion in abstract color fields and landscapes. Often working in series, she blends the boundaries between realism and abstraction to create a delicate blending of land, sky, and sea. Select works can be seen on display at Towson Framing Gallery now through June 21st. Visit her website for a complete list of works. http://aboutwellart.googlepages.com
Grant Corley is a native of the Baltimore area. He studied illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. While living there, he shared an art studio with his artistic mentor, Eric Joyner, who now has a wildly successful fine arts career painting giant robots battling menacing donuts. Eventually, Grant migrated back to Baltimore in search of mortal housing prices and, of course, a limitless supply of crab-fl avored potato chips. He lives in Patterson Park.
Ann J. Crostic: Working primarily in acrylic, Ann concentrates on figure studies and landscape painting. Joining TAG in 2007 has allowed her to continue the study of the human form, a long time pursuit.
Ann’s landscape paintings are executed “plein-air”. She embraces the challenges and joy of painting outdoors and believes it should add a different dimension to the work.
Ann is a graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in drawing. Recent post baccalaureate studies include MICA’s Continuing Studies program and Towson University. She is a member of the Creative Alliance and Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.
David Diaz works in oil and watercolor and currently lives in Annapolis, Md. He received formal training in the public schools of Western Maryland and Frostburg State University; as well as University of Maryland, Towson and Catholic University.
He taught art for 32 years in Maryland, in both Allegany and Anne Arundel County and has worked with students from elementary through middle school, as well as adult education and private lessons.
David is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters with a focus on regional subjects.

Deric Emry: My primary medium continues to be charcoal but I am integrating pastel and watercolor into some of my works. In my pieces I seek to raise rapid line and gesture to the level of finished work.
I studied part-time at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD. While in New York I attended sessions at the Art Students League of New York.
Andy Holzopfel was born in 1943 in Baltimore.
Gil Jawetz paints primarily in oils and likes to incorporate images of animals and bright colors into his work. While living in Brooklyn, NY he studied at Art Students League and turned a life-long love of drawing into a passion for painting. He’s been active in local arts since returning to Baltimore in 2005 and has taken part in shows at Maryland Art Place, Creative Alliance and the Towson Artists Group, as well as recent group shows in Miami and New York. His work has been mentioned or featured in publications ranging from New York magazine and Art Basel Miami Beach magazine to Baltimore’s City Paper and Examiner. This summer he’ll stage his second solo show at Baltimore’s Yellow Dog Tavern, called “human(e) beings.”
